God’s Stories of the Future

Right alongside this worship series about our vision for the future, we’ve been collecting stories of what KUMC means to different members of our community—some who have been here a short time, and some for years.

Thank you to the Kahdys, Williamses, and Robinsons for sharing your hearts with us!

It’s been such a gift to hear stories of being welcomed and finding a place to belong. Stories of people showing up with incredible love and support when life got hard. Stories of the excitement of creating something new together, and of discovering a place to serve and make a difference.

These stories are part of the unfolding story of God’s love through our church.

But I don’t think God gives us these experiences simply so we can count ourselves blessed.

I think God is teaching us how to love.

When you know what it feels like to be welcomed, you learn something about how to welcome.

When people show up for you in a difficult season, you learn something about showing up for someone else.

When someone makes room for you, listens to you, believes in you, or invites you to use your gifts, you learn just how much those things matter.

And then our stories turn our attention outward.

Because there are people around us who don’t know what it feels like to have a place where they belong. People going through hard things without a village around them. People with gifts to offer who haven’t been invited to use them. People longing for connection and needing to know—not just because someone tells them, but because someone shows them—that they are worthy of love. And people who don’t yet know the God who loves them.

God has been teaching us through one another.

Now we get to take what we’ve learned and live it beyond ourselves.

To love louder.

To connect deeper.

And to make room for someone else to experience the kind of story God has already been writing in their life.

From my heart,

Rev. Steph Margeson
