An Exciting New Chapter: Welcoming KUMC's Church Board
We are thrilled to share some wonderful news about the future of our church! Beginning in January 2026, KUMC transitioned to a Board structure that will help us focus less on administration and more on what we're truly called to do:
ministry, mission, and making disciples of Jesus Christ.

Why This Change? More Ministry, Fewer Meetings!
For years, we've navigated church life through multiple committees and countless meetings. While this served us well, we've recognized that growing, thriving churches spend their energy differently—they focus on ministry first. Our new Board structure eliminates unnecessary layers of administration so that our leaders, volunteers, and entire congregation can invest more time in the actual work of the church: serving our community, deepening our faith, and living out God's call on our lives.

This isn't just about efficiency—it's about alignment. It's about making sure every decision, every dollar, and every ounce of energy moves us toward our shared vision as a church.

What Does the Board Do?
Think of our Board as the heart of discernment and direction for KUMC. The Board's sacred work includes:
-
Listening deeply to the congregation and our wider community to understand needs and dreams
-
Sifting those needs through the lens of our church's vision, purpose, and mission
-
Supporting and instilling that vision throughout all the work we do
-
Moving and creating resources to meet the goals we've discerned together
-
Making decisions on financial matters, building and infrastructure, major projects, and significant changes

Our Board commits to three foundational values: accessibility, transparency, and staying grounded in our shared vision. This is their covenant of service. This is your Board—here to serve, to listen, and to lead with integrity.

You're Invited: Open Meetings & Open Hearts
Here's something we're especially excited about: Board meetings are open to anyone who wishes to attend. While voting authority rests with the Board, your voice, your questions, and your ideas matter.

Meetings will be listed on our weekly newsletter and church calendar (subscribe here). You can attend in person by request—space is limited—or join virtually through links provided when you sign up through the newsletter.

We want to hear from you! Bring the Board your questions about the direction of the church, insights about community needs, opportunities you've discovered, connections that could resource our work, or feedback on our mission and events. This is a partnership, and your engagement makes us stronger.

A Relationship Built on Trust
The relationship between the Board and our congregation is one of sacred trust, exercised regularly and honored deeply. We encourage you to share your thoughts and concerns cordially with Board members, especially as decisions are being considered. Your Board members are committed to transparency and will keep the congregation updated as discernments unfold and decisions are made.

If you have questions, ideas, or simply want to learn more, please don't hesitate to reach out to any Board member or Pastor Steph. We're in this together.
